JIB (집)

집 (jib) is an imagined home café and bookstore based in San Jose, designed as a cultural space rooted in Korean American experience and memory. Envisioned as both a gathering place and a form of cultural preservation, the project serves as a community-centered space for Korean American stories in the Bay Area. Founded by Ari Kim and inspired by Ari’s childhood and upbringing, 집 blends home recipe coffee and books to create an environment where culture and comfort coexist. The space is imagined as a home away from home where community and shared history can be held and passed forward.

LOGO

The logo is hand-drawn in Procreate, embracing an organic, imperfect quality that evokes warmth and familiarity. Its form evokes the shape of a house while incorporating the Korean word “jib” (집), meaning home. The textured strokes enhance a natural, intimate feel, inviting a sense of memory and reminiscence.

COLORS

The color palette is intentionally restrained, built around muted grays, soft white, and a deep red accent. The neutral tones create a calm, understated foundation that reflects comfort and everyday familiarity of home (집). The red draws from traditional Korean color symbolism, symbolizing passion and good fortune. The red accent serves as a cultural resonance while anchoring the brand visually.

TYPOGRAPHY

PT Mono was chosen for its utilitarian and understated character. Its monospaced structure evokes everyday signage and printed matter, grounding the brand in simplicity and approachability. Paired with the hand-drawn logo, the type balances structure and softness, reinforcing jib (집) as a lived-in, welcoming space for all.
